Swarnambika Pooja

Significance of Swarnambika Pooja

Kubera once visited Kailash to obtain the darshan of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati (in the form of Swarnambika). Kubera was stunned to look at Swarnambika's beauty and splendor and regretted within himself that he had not worshipped such a fine Goddess for this long. Over time, one of his eyes shut impulsively.

Judging that Kubera was winking at her with a wicked intent, Goddess Parvati cursed Kubera, and one of his eyes burst into pieces. He not only lost his sight but also lost his physical charm. In total surrender, he pleaded Lord Shiva to forgive him and also explained that he did not wink at the Goddess in any wicked intention. Lord Shiva left the choice of forgiving with Goddess Parvati, who showed compassion for Kubera's earnestness. She blessed him for his eyes to grow back; however, it was smaller than the other eye.

As a boon to his prayer, Lord Shiva granted Kubera with the position of guarding the North direction and also blessed him to represent the material form of wealth. Thereafter, Swarnambika (a form of Goddess Parvati) is the Goddess who grants boons for wealth, Goddess Lakshmi the creator of wealth and Kubera the distributor of the created riches and prosperity-therefore, appeasing the distributor, the benefactor and the creator of wealth is certain to make you rich and prosperous!
