Typically, male members of the family perform the Shradham as he is considered the closest descendent and has the right to perform the rite. The ceremony involves chanting mantras, food offerings, and other Vedic rites. The Shradham can be performed at home or in temples with the pandit guidance. Description
Shradham – Satisfy Your Ancestors with Fire Ritual and Food Offerings.
The Shradham is performed to show gratitude and respect to our ancestors. This ritual is recommended to avoid any Pitru Dosha or curses from ancestors or forefathers. On the day of the Shradham , the Karta or Host should maintain an empty stomach until the ceremony is completed.
Priests perform the fire ritual (Homa), appeasing Agni and Soma. As a result, these deities take your offerings to the Pitrus, providing nourishment and peace. If the ancestor souls that live in the Pitru Loka are satisfied, they bless the new generation and family descendants with happiness, wealth, and protection from negative energies.
