Thithi or Devasam is a food offering ceremony performed for ancestors (Pithrus) to show honour and gratitude. The food is offered in the form of Pindam (Sesame Rice Balls) to worship and satisfy one's predecessors. The word 'Thithi' is a date and time at which the person (ancestor) passed away. Hence, the Thithi can be conducted on this day to worship forefathers and seek their blessings.

Description

Thithi (Devasam):  A Food Offering Ceremony To Satisfy Ancestors.

The Thithi (Devasam) rites might vary based on Hindu Communities (Gotra), for example, Brahmins might follow a different procedure compared to others. The exact time to perform Thithi is calculated using Panchangam (Hindu calendar) with the help of vedic astrologers. This ancestral ritual is performed every year on the same Thithi and Pirai. The duration for the entire Thithi is typically 30 minutes to 90 minutes and is executed mostly at noon. The Pindam offered in the rite satisfies the hungry Pithrus in the Pitru Loka and helps them live a peaceful spiritual life. The venue for the Thithi is fixed at a family member’s home or at a Temple.

It is said that the ritual puja transmits cosmic energy to the Pithrus, which can also accrue to the doer (Host). This energy can help fulfill our material desires and alleviate our life problems, such as marriage delays, childbirth suits, personal barriers, and professional disputes.

At Priest Services, we offer certified pandits who perform the Devasam as per the Shastras. Our priests will chant mantras and conduct fire rituals (homa) to take your prayers and offerings to your ancestors through Agni and Soma. The rituals are conducted in your city, typically your home or nearby Srardham centers.
